Part 1 of 4. The miniseries about a diverse family of LGBTQ people who helped pioneer the equality movement in the U.S. begins with the social-justice fighters moving to San Francisco after coming out or being outed. There, they join the fledgling LGBTQ movement and set out to change the world.
The LGBT civil-rights movement is chronicled from its turbulent infancy to the present through the experiences of a diverse family of LGBT men and women.
“When We Rise” chronicles the personal and political struggles, set-backs and triumphs of a diverse family of LGBT men and women who helped pioneer one of the last legs of the U.S. Civil Rights movement from its turbulent infancy in the 20th century to the once unfathomable successes of today. The period piece tells the history of the gay rights movement, starting with the Stonewall Riots in 1969.
